I was lucky enough to be invited by my friend, Kim, to an outing her friends were inviting her to. She thought it would be a good opportunity to introduce me and her school friends. I felt sooooooo lucky that she decided to invite and was kind enough to provide transportation. I was truly worried about that because - with me and my school friends - that's always the reason why we end up not going to outings or whatever. She later asked me to sleepover with her and her stepsister at her aunt's house. I almost wasn't allowed, but I still succeeded. She fetched me from our condo and we were off to start a funny and - I think - "girly" night... I kept thinking how we were to get any sleep being so excited about watching Showtime the next day.
It turns out, my mom is not only a great mom, but a psychic to... she totally knew that we weren't going to get a decent night's sleep... Early in the night she texted me not to pull an all-nighter because we girls needed our beauty rest. This happened as we were talking about just not sleeping at all. The call time at ABS-CBN (filipino network) was 7am. We had to pick other people up on the way and we had to do our hair. Weird, yet that's how most mom's are.
This was a few us right after arriving to the holding area. |
When we got to ABS-CBN (May23, 2011, Monday), we already took pictures. We were so completely and innocently enthusiastic about the day ahead. We first met our tour guides: (Kuyas) Peng and Paul. Paul was there first, but due to him not having his voice, Peng was the one who talked. Paul ended up trying to be the funny guy by acting almost everything that Peng said. We went through some dressing rooms, the cafeteria, passed by an ongoing radio show (Ted Failon), The Price is Right studio, the local evening news studio and more.
Kuya Paul became sort of a celebrity. We definitely knew being a tour guide wasn't the only reason girls (and some "boys") were asking to take pictures with him. The reason became fairly obvious during the earlier parts of the tour. Kuya Peng might as well have disappeared during the first few photo-ops that were held. Everyone kept asking pictures with Paul. We wanted to do the same of course, but decided that we' rather find Peng and take a picture with him first than push around to get a photo with Paul. Unfortunately, we couldn't find him and ended up taking a picture with the 15-minute celebrity Paul. Later on, we got a lot of pictures with them. They even joked about being famous and such. So predictable, hahaha!
I have to give credit to our guides, of course. I did not expect them to be as sociable and hands on as they were as they were. They made efforts at jokes and were very welcoming to any questions and inquiries the people had.
I did feel bad that we weren't allowed to spin the wheel when we were on the set of the Price is Right, but we were allowed to sit on the seats and take as much pictures as we wanted. We also learned that almost all studios look so much bigger on TV than their real size.
That's Ted over there, wearing white. |
Too bad wed didn't have any celebrity encounter during the tour, that is if you don't consider walking past the ongoing radio broadcast of Ted Failon (as seen in the picture on the right). A lot of us waved toward him through the glass, but it was almost like he was shy. He sort of looked the other way and kind of tried to hide behind the collar of his shirt. It seemed a little funny, but I guess he just wasn't in the mood or something.
The last stop was the cafeteria. Because of us people taking the tour, the cafeteria became packed with people. It was around 10 in the morning. We hung around the area for a while deciding on what food to eat. We even saw some of the performers that were gong to be on Showtime, they were an assortment of people. Wearing matching outfits, glittery hats, fully made up faces and hair. We ended up just getting a drink and some candy due to Paul calling us back, saying that we were needed to go and get ready for watching Showtime.
The line outside the Showtime studio became quite chaotic at first: even though we were linen up inside rails, sort of like a cage, I guess: people not knowing what was going to happen next; people complaining about the heat; people wanting to ask questions; and people like us who still wanted to grab a bite to eat. Turns out, we were being sorted into the groups we belonged to and girls were being picked out for the Rejoice hair competition thing. We (yes, we were chosen) were to have our pictures taken and they would serve as an entry. I guess you had to have smooth hair. Something happened and we were already being called to go back into the 'cage'. A few girls, including me, didn't really go for the contest, we didn't mind. :)
